Dear Ms. Caddis:

I have had every intention in the world to address this letter to you for some time; however, “time” is an element that often eludes me!! My intent was to write a letter to address the amazing care that is provided to the residents of C2 at Heidehof, so here it is…

I speak on behalf of my family when I say that under the expert, yet friendly and humorous, management of Liz Klassen RN, the RPNs and PSWs provide a very comfortable home for our mother, Vita Wren. Although she does not always express her appreciation to them, they are collectively kind, caring, supportive, loving, compassionate, firm (when necessary), ingenious (when necessary) and fun-loving. I have watched staff members kiss, embrace, laugh with, cry with, and dance with our mother. A recent event that comes to mind is the night of the Christmas party. The staff came on duty, went out on the floor and had every resident cleaned, changed and dressed in their Christmas finery with 1- 1.5 hours. They were all perspiring and exhausted from the effort, yet smiling and hoping everyone would have a great time. They then turned their attention to preparing to feed those who would not be able to attend the party. It was an amazing thing to watch. I could not get my mother to put on her Christmas finery, BUT THEY DID, and she came out smiling and ready to go!!

I spent much of my early career working in heath care including the supervision of student nurses in long-term care facilities, so I know just exactly how difficult their jobs are, and yet they do them with alacrity and grace.

I do believe at one time you had asked for letters of commendation if we know of any one individual that stood out in the crowd in terms of their care and commitment. I could not pick one, but I do pick the “staff” of C2.

I would be remiss if I did not also comment on the entire “team approach” that is so evident at Heidehof.

  1. The activation staff who work so hard to give the residents a sense of worth and accomplishment. Again, our mother is not as appreciative of these effort as her family are, but I do want you to know that we are grateful for all that they do.
  2. The cleaning and laundry staff who always keep our mother’s room and clothing spotless, but more importantly to us, always have a kind word for her.
  3. The dietary department that provides the most nutritious meals and snacks. Whenever I walk into Heidehof, the smell of home cooked food is wafting through the halls, which for a “Wren: is the greatest smell of all!!

In conclusion, I wish to say that I readily understand why Heidehof is the #1 Nursing Home in the Niagara Region, and we thank you from the very bottom of our hearts for all that you do.

We wish you all a very Merry Christmas and God’s Richest Blessings in 2013.
